Dave Monson is from Osnabrock, ND. He is married to his wife, Mary. Together they have three sons and seven grandchildren. Dave is a Farmer; Retired School Administrator, Retired Insurance Agent/Owner, and member of the North Dakota Legislature. He served as Speaker of the House from 2007-2009 and as Assistant Majority Leader from 1997-2009. He has served on numerous other Boards including Dovre Lutheran Church, North American Industrial Hemp Council, ND Atmospheric Resource Board, NE ND Heritage Association, Prairie Public Broadcasting, North Central Council of School TV, Upper Valley Special Education Unit, and Osnabrock School District.
Barry Townsend
Duties: Personnel & Corporate Governance
City: LaMoure, North Dakota
Barry has been married to his wife, Glenda, for 44 years. Together, they have two children and were recently blessed with their first grandchild. Professionally, Barry has 37 years of experience in the insurance industry that includes management, claims, underwriting, and agent duties. He is PFMM (Professional Farm Mutual Manager) certified and is currently pursuing his NAMIC Director Certification. Barry also spent 15 years as the Executive Director of the North Dakota Association of Farm Mutual Insurance Companies and has served on numerous Boards throughout his career. Previously, he served on the Federal Affairs Committee of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies, 40 years on the Board of Directors for LaMoure Credit Union, and many years on his church council.
Dave Weiss

Dave brings an abundance of experience to the FMIC Board, with 30 years of insurance regulatory experience (3 yrs Minnesota Ins Dept. and
28 North Dakota Ins. Dept.), 3 years in the Accounting Department at
Farmers Union Mutual home office in Jamestown, and 10+ years preparing
and assisting with the preparation of statutory financial statements for
North Dakota county mutual insurers. He is a graduate of Dickinson State
College (BA - Business Administration) and UND (English) and have spent
many years at the School of Hard Knocks.
Francis Rubish
Director
Francis is a retired farmer, agent of more then 31 years, serving on Home Mutual Insurance for 31 years and served on the local Township board, the Fairmount School Board, the Church and Cemetery Board.
Mark Huseth
Director
Mark is a farmer, licensed insurance agent for over 35 years, serving on the board of directors for Home Mutual Insurance for over 35 years and served on the Wyndmere School Board, the Township Board, the Sheyenne Grazing Association and is the Past President of the ND Stockman Association.
Duane Akvik
Director
Duane worked for the Richland School, has been an insurance agent for over 35 years, served on the Church Board and has been on the Home Mutual Board for over 35 years.
Leon Bladow
Director
Leon is a retired banker, a part time farmer who has served on the Home Mutual Board, the Church Board, the Trivent Board, Dollars for Scholars and as and Elder of the Church.
Keath Borchert
Director
Keath has Master’s degree from NDSU and is a graduate from both UND AND NDSCS. Keath has taught and coached in Grand Forks and Directed the NDSCS Office of Admissions for 31 years. He is on numerous Boards and is a Tri-Athlete, marathon runner and rodeo participant and “Cowboy Poet”. He had been on the Home Mutual BOD for years and has numerous leadership positions throughout his career.

Jill Stroh
Policy Processor
Jill joined Family Mutual in November 2021 and we now officially have two Jill’s in our office! Jill moved to Bismarck after graduating from Killdeer High School to attend BSC where she graduated with a degree in Information Processing. Jill has an extensive background in graphic design and in her free time enjoys being outdoors, taking road trips with friends, and classic car shows. Family Mutual is excited to have Jill apart of the team as our Policy Processor!

Jill Balzer
Senior Underwriter
Jill is the Underwriter for Family Mutual Insurance. She evaluates insurance applications to assess potential risk relating to each applicant and each property insured by Family Mutual. Prior to working at Family Mutual Insurance, Jill earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration at NDSU. She currently lives in Bismarck with her husband, three kids and, two rescue dogs. In her free time, Jill loves to spend time with her family and enjoys creating, painting and sign making.

Laura Braunberger
Adjuster/Risk Review Manager
Laura is a Risk Manager and Claims Adjuster for Family Mutual Insurance Company. She started in October of 2015 with five years claims adjusting experience prior to joining the Family Mutual team. In 2019, Laura joined the Board of Directors for the company. She is in the process of completing her NAMIC certification and is a Haag certified adjuster. Laura is a ND native and has lived in Minot, ND for the past 30 years.
